WHO WE ARE

Our
Mission & Values

The Cover 1 Foundation is a non profit 501c3 whose purpose is to provide resources and volunteer assistance to underserved organizations and individuals involved in athletics in Central Virginia.

The Cover 1 Foundation recognizes the significant impact athletics can play to open doors and change lives for our youth.  But we are also keenly aware of the role that resources and opportunities can play to help an athlete or an organization reach their full potential, and that many times those resources can be limited or non existent. So, the Cover 1 Foundation was created to "level the playing field" for individuals and organizations by providing the resources and volunteer assistance where they are needed the most in the community.... similar to the way a safety provides help where it is needed in a Cover 1 defense.

Behind the Name

What is the significance of the “Cover 1” name?

In the game of football, a “Cover 1” call on defense signals to the defensive backs that they are in man to man coverage all except for “one” player (usually a safety) who reacts to the development of the play and provides support wherever it is most needed. Similarly, our foundation aspires to operate like a “safety” and react to areas of need to those participating in athletics in Central Virginia.

Why people believe in us

On behalf of the Petersburg Varsity Softball Team, we would like to thank the Cover 1 Foundation for their generosity and help in providing various items for our team. They gave us cleats, game pants, gloves, batters helmets, and specialized hitting equipment. Our young ladies are very appreciative of these special gifts.
